ARCADIS
Manteca Fire Department being called to extinguish the fire. There is concern the
aluminum containers may have contained a hazardous substance. The rationale for soil
samples and boring points are summarized in Table 1.
3.2.2 Soil Sampling
A total of 79 soil samples (including duplicate samples) will be collected from
48 locations at the Site (see Figure 2). Table 1 provides details regarding sampling
locations, sample identification numbers, sample depths, analyses, and rationale for
the proposed sampling locations.
3.2.3 Sampling Methods and Procedures
This section describes the methods and procedures that will be used to collect soil
samples. Samples will be handled in accordance with approved procedures specified
herein.
3.2.3.1 Utility Clearance
The utility clearance will include a 48-hour notification of Underground Service Alert
(USA) and will also include an on-site geophysical survey for the purpose of utility
clearance for proposed sampling locations.
3.2.3.2 Soil Sampling
A total of 79 soil samples will be collected from the Site (see Figure 3). Table 1
provides details regarding sampling locations, sample identification numbers, sample
depths, and analyses for the proposed sampling locations.
Soil samples will be collected from locations as depicted on Figure 2. Discrete soil
samples will be collected from each location. Thirteen (13) soil borings will be
advanced to 5 feet bgs, and soil samples will be collected from 0 to 0.5 foot bgs, 1.5 to
2.0 feet bgs, and 4.5 to 5.0 feet bgs. Thirty-four (34) surface soil samples will be
collected across the Site from 0 to 0.5 foot bgs. One (1) ash sample will be collected
from within the silo.
Each soil boring will be advanced to the appropriate depth with hand-sampling
equipment or, if accessible, with a direct-push drilling rig. If the desired depth for
sample collection cannot be reached using hand-sampling equipment and the location is
not accessible, the boring will be relocated within a 2-foot radius of the original boring.
If refusal with the hand auger is encountered a second time at the same sampling
location, a sample will not be collected from that location and the DTSC will be
notified.
WP-PEA-Gordon-lul10-Rvoo98o8.doc: Page 17
