Luces, R.E.H.S.
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 E. Weber Avenue, 3rd Floor
Stockton, CA 95202-2708
SUBJECT: Acid Discharge Remediation at the Acid Day Tank Facility
Dear Ms Luces:
In response to the "Notice to Abate" issued on July 31, 2006, with regard to the sulfuric acid leak at the
day tank facility, I am pleased to report that the contents in the acid tank have been removed in
preparation for subsequent repairs to the tank.
On July 28, 2006 at 02:17 a.m., OMI/Thames Water personnel notified your offices of an acid spill at the
City of Stockton's Regional Water Reclamation Facility. The volume of the spill was later determined to
be approximately 200 gallons of 93% sulfuric acid. The spilled material was contained within the facility's
treatment system.
A contractor, PSC, was retained by OMI/Thames Water to remediate the remaining acid in the day tank.
The neat acid was pumped into tote containers; the tank was then rinsed prior to inspection by
OMI/Thames Water's maintenance forces. Upon completion of the work, there were no residuals in the
tank. The contractor completed the work on August 1, 2006 circa 09:00 a.m.
If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact Mr. Greg White at (209) 937-8757.
Sincerely,
Tony Stanbridge
General Manager
Attachments
cc: G.
