GROUP
area difficult. Decommissioning equipment should be track-mounted or use balloon tires in this area, but can be
wheel-mounted for other areas if bidder considers this advantageous from a pricing perspective.
Contractor shall implement the project in accordance with their own Health and Safety Plan. MSE staff will be
conducting fieldwork in Level D personal protective equipment.
Specific Scope of Work:
1A Contractor shall decommission the 26 wells shown in attached Table 2-1. Decommissioning shall be by
pressure grouting in accordance with SJCEHD standards. SJCEHD inspectors prefer a 9-sack mix of neat
cement grout rather than a cement-bentonite grout.
113 Per section 13.17 of the SJCEHD standards, "mushroom"caps shall be installed on the tops of
decommissioned wells. The attached figure is a design sketch for these caps provided by a SJCEHD inspector.
2A Contractor shall remove to grade and stockpile an estimated maximum 4 cubic yards of soil from around the
casings of MW-1 RD, MW-3 and MW-9.
2113 Stockpile shall be located in an area designated by PG&E outside of the Pond 3 footprint. For bidding
purposes assume this location will be at the intersection of the two roads to the northeast of Pond 3, as shown on
Figures 1-2.
2C Stockpile shall be covered with plastic sheeting and secured when completed pending PG&E transport and
disposal at a Class III landfill.
2D After soil is removed, the casings of MW-1 RD, MW-3 and MW-9 shall be cut to grade before decommissioning.
Contractor shall attempt to prevent casing shards from entering wells, but in accordance with SJCEHD standards,
all wells shall be sounded to assure no obstructions will interfere with filling and sealing and any such obstructions
shall be removed before filling and sealing begins.
3A Contractor shall attempt to locate P-6A. An area of soil up to 500 sq. ft. shall be removed up to 2 feet in depth
and stockpiled behind the active work area. Note that P-6A is located on the edge, or to the side, of a dirt access
road for nearby fields that are being actively farmed.
3B If and when P-6A is located and the piezometer is decommissioned, removed soil shall be returned to its
original location and compacted by the soil removal bucket or three passes of a portable compactor.
4A Except as otherwise indicated in this Request for Bid, contractor shall dispose of all waste materials resulting
from decommissioning. Any water displaced from wells may be allowed to percolate into adjacent soil.
