The 300,000 chickens in the "belt houses" generate approximately 200 yards of
manure per week at peak occupancy/production. On an annual basis this will
average 180 yards per week accounting for vacancy between flocks, molting, and
normal mortality depletion.
In a similar manner the 400,000 chickens in the"scrape and flush houses"will
generate a peak of approximately 270 yards per week or an annual average of
270 yards per week.
The approximate moisture content in the "belt houses" is 67%. When the manure
is dry there is a 40% shrinkage in volume.
2. The average depth of the primary pond is nine feet giving an approximate volume
of 6,469,000 cubic feet. The average depth of the overflow backup lagoon is
seven feet, giving an approximate volume of 3,964,000 cubic feet.
3. The recirculating pumps do a good job of agitating the pond to avoid solids and
floating debris to build. In June the"floating debris islands" accumulated over a
period of more than ten years, were dispersed by mechanically dragging a boom
along the east bank of the pond.
4. Ash from the incinerators is disposed of in the trash dumpsters. Feathers
routinely fall into the manure and are handled with the manure. The exception
