PURPOSE <br /> To provide Operator instruction for cleaning up DIESEL FUEL spills.. <br /> II. STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURES <br /> 1. Put on personal protective equipment. (Face Shield,Rubber Gloves,and Uniform). Operator shall not wear <br /> short pants,or short sleeve shirt. <br /> 2. Immediately take steps to stop/contain leak. If fluids are leaking or have spilled on an impermeable surface, <br /> such as a road or parking lot, locate nearest down gradient storm drain and dike or berm the drain to prevent <br /> fluids from entering. <br /> 3. Always use dry methods for clean-up of fuel spills. <br /> A. Spread absorbents("kitty litter", loose absorbents, sheets,or pillows)on the spill. <br /> B. Sweep up or pick up the absorbed material. <br /> C. Dispose of waste in a marked hazardous waste container. <br /> 4. After clean-up be sure to sweep up the contaminated absorbent and remove berm or dike from storm drain. <br /> 5. Disposable hazardous waste container is located in the Corporation Yard Warehouse Building. When <br /> disposable container is full or the accumulation date is approaching 90-days, contact Supervisor to schedule <br /> removal. A new container shall be replaced at the same time of removal. No hazardous waste shall not be <br /> stored more than 90-days and a hazardous waste container must be properly marked(date for start of <br /> accumulation,the words"Hazardous Waste",name and address of generator,hazardous properties,physical <br /> state,and contents). <br /> 6. Remove personal protective equipment and dispose into a properly marked Hazardous Waste container <br /> located in the Corporation Yard Warehouse Building. <br /> 7. Report spill to Supervisor, and Supervisor will report spill to San Joaquin County Environmental Health <br /> Department. <br /> AP•!•'(Rev.') DATE <br />
