PURPOSE <br /> To provide Operator instruction for cleaning up a SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE spills. <br /> 2. STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURES <br /> 3. Put on personal protective equipment. (Face Shield,Rubber Gloves,and Uniform). Operator shall not wear <br /> short pants,or short sleeve shirt. <br /> 4. Immediately take steps to contain spill/stop leak. <br /> 5. Treat or neutralize spill-with sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfate or sodium thiosulfate located in corporation <br /> yard building. Pour neutralizer over the affected area. Once the sodium hypochlorite is neutralized, it will <br /> clump and is ready to be scooped up and placed in a disposable container. <br /> 6. Use one pound of neutralizer for every one gallon of spilled sodium hypochlorite. <br /> 7. Remove personal protective equipment and dispose in a properly marked Hazardous Waste container. <br /> 8. Wash hands and other exposed areas with mild soap and water. <br /> 9. Once spill has been neutralized and collected, inform Supervisor. Supervisor will contact San Joaquin <br /> County Environmental Health Department of spill. <br /> 10. Disposable container is located in the Corporation Yard Warehouse Building. When disposable container is <br /> full or it's accumulation date is nearing 90-days,contact Supervisor to schedule removal. A new container <br /> shall be replaced at the same time of removal. No Hazardous Waste shall be stored for more than 90-days. <br /> 11. The following are important information: <br /> A. Never allow sodium hypochlorite to pool or puddle on driving surfaces <br /> B. Never allow sodium hypochlorite to drain into a storm drain <br /> C. Never allow sodium hypochlorite to discharge into a stream, lake or pond <br /> AP•'-•'(Rev.•) DATE <br />
