METER READER I/II <br /> Page 2 <br /> QUALIFICATIONS: (The•following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the <br /> classification) <br /> Education and/or Experience: <br /> Any combination of education and experiencethat has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities <br /> necessary for a-Water Meter Reader I/II. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to <br /> possess the equivalent of- <br /> Water <br /> fWater Meter Reader I ... <br /> A high school diploma or equivalent. One year of experience in the maintenance and repair of water and <br /> sewer systems is desirable. <br /> Water Meter Reader II <br /> In addition to the above,two years of experience equivalent to that of a Water Meter Reader I in the City <br /> of Lathrop, or other jurisdiction; including experience in the maintenance and repair of water and sewer <br /> systems,and a high school diploma or equivalent. <br /> KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS- (The following are a representative sample of the KAS's <br /> necessary to perform essential duties of the position. The level and scope of the knowledge and abilities <br /> listed below vary between I and H levels.)which include, but are not limited to, the following: <br /> • Basic mathematical principles; .. <br /> • Read residential and comniercial water'meters on assigned routes'and record readings; <br /> • Input data into hand-held meter reading device; <br /> • Verify meter.numbers and service codes; <br /> • Compare the current reading with prior readings to.determine accuracy and appropriateness of reading; <br /> • Check meters for missing seals,glass,lights out and tampering and makes necessary reports; <br /> • Discuss meter problems with supervisor; <br /> • Identify address for new water utility billing; <br /> • Tactfully respond to citizen inquiries and complaints; <br /> • Verify water meter numbers and service codes; <br /> • Follow oral and written instructions; _ <br /> • Work independently in the field with minimum supervision; <br /> • Work with the public effectively andco operatively in a courteous and professional manner; <br /> • Knowledge of City streets and address system; <br /> Updated by Resolution 18- <br />
