EnviroTech Consultants, Inc. Page 22
Site Investigation: Sampling Report
Louise Avenue Water Treatment Facility
7.0 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION AND RINSATE DISPOSAL
EnviroTech's standard practice for cleaning the tools between samples, to prevent cross-contamination, is
to use a low concentration soap and distilled water solution. The rinsate (combination of soil, distilled water,
and detergent)was captured in a sealed container, and tested for disposal as required by hazardous waste
disposal facilities; the container was a labeled 55-gallon drum with a bung opening.
During the initial and secondary sampling events, the soil samples were collected using a hand auger and
the sampling equipment was decontaminated between borings by washing the auger core barrels in 5-
gallon buckets containing non-phosphate detergent mixed with distilled water. The equipment was brushed
with a long-handled brush; the brush was triple rinsed between samples to remove any remaining debris.
The equipment was then rinsed with distilled water before continuing with sampling; the rinsate was
collected in a 5-gallon bucket and then transferred to the 55-gallon drum. The auger was decontaminated
before leaving the site so that any residual soil on the equipment was removed.
One rinsate water sample was collected from the drum for analysis for disposal purposes during each
sampling event. In accordance with EnviroTech's standard practice, the rinsate water sample was analyzed
for:
• Title 22 Metals; including arsenic and vanadium and
• Bioassay
Table 4 summarizes the analytical results from the two rinsate samples.
8.0 RECORD KEEPING
The chain of custody form was completed by the field geologist daily. The form was signed by the field
geologist when the samples were transferred to BC Laboratories. A copy of the chain of custody form was
retained with the field geologist until transported to the EnviroTech office for scanning. An electronic copy
and the paper copy will be retained in EnviroTech's files.
Field notes were taken using EnviroTech's field notes form to document progress and any changes to the
work plan based on field decisions. Field notes are retained in the project file in EnviroTech's office.
Photographs were taken of the soil from each hand augured location.A photo log is included in Attachment
1.
5400 Rosedale Highway Bakersfield, CA 93308 Tel 661.377.0073 Fax 661.377.0074
