James Tj osvold
Febgruary 7, 1990
The purpose of the sampling conducted by DHS was to confirm
results of M&B air model. The results from boundary and off site
samples indicate that arsenic and PCP above DHS and EPA action
levels are possibly leaving the facility.
At this time, additional work will be necessary based on the
results collected by Radian. M&B can approach the project in two
ways. One approach is to resample at the boundary and nearby
receptors for a one year period. Archived samples for arsenic
can be analyzed to establish a larger data base. Analyses should
include PCP, arsenic, dioxin, and PAH. Sampling results inputted
into a complex terrain air model will determine year round
exposure and amounts. Locations identified by the model should
be monitored.
The second approach is to identify the sources and to reduce
emissions below an acceptable level. Verification monitoring
would be required.
Jeff Van Slooten
Associate Hazardous Materials
Specialist
Region 1
