Once the spill has been contained,the employee will notify the facility manager,environmental manager,or upper <br /> management. <br /> i <br /> The facility manager and management personnel will determine if an outside contractor is required. <br /> Step 6: If not required,facility employees will clean up the spill using appropriate absorbent or spill response materials. <br /> If required,contact an emergency response contractor for clean-up of the spill.Employees will remain at the spill <br /> site to ensure that no oil is allowed outside of the temporary containment placed around the spill. <br /> Step 7: if facility employees will clean up the spill,place all used/spent absorbent or spill response materials into an empty <br /> drum and label appropriately. <br /> Ma.. or Spills <br /> Major discharges are generally those where: <br /> • The discharge is large enough to spread beyond the immediate discharge area; <br /> • The discharged material enters water; <br /> • The discharged material requires specialized equipment or training to clean up; <br /> • The discharged material poses a hazard to human health or safety; and <br /> • There is a danger of fire or explosion. <br /> All major spills will be responded to in the following manner: <br /> Step 1: First employee on the scene will attempt to identify the source of the spill and the apparent tate of release. <br /> Step 2: First employee on the scene shall notify the facility management immediately. <br /> IF THE FIRST EMPLOYEE AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT <br /> DETERMINE AN EMERGENCY DOES EXIST!!! <br /> Step 3: Notify Emergency Facilities—Dial 911 <br /> Step 4: Turn off or remove all ignition sources (i.e., welding torches, cigarettes, etc.) and evacuate the area of all <br /> persons <br /> Step 5: If the spill can be sliut-off via an emergency shut-off switch,immediately push the switch to stop the release <br /> Step <br /> T6: e first employee on the scene will then gather up absorbent and appropriate spill response materials to begin <br /> ntaining the spill. <br />
