i
k:
;k
I
83 WEST MARCH LANE
I. SUITE 12
STOCKTON,CA 95207
PHONE:(209)476-1635
M"GERS DESIGNERS/CONSULTANTS July 18, 1989
Mr. Richard Callistro
Capital Project Division
San Joaquin County
222 E. Weber Ave.
Courthouse, Room 670
Stockton, CA 95202
Dear Mr. Callistro,
At the request of the San Joaquin County Captial Project
Division, ROY1F. WESTON, INC. (WESTON) will abandon monitor well
MW-1 by removal or destruction. The resultant borehole will be
filled with grout. The abandonment of MW-1 is necessary because
as presently located the well interferes with the planned
construction of the new Human Services Building for San Joaquin
County at this site. Figure 1 and Figure 2 depict the site and
monitor well location.
k
The actual abandonment will be accomplished in one of two ways.
1. Initially, an -.attempt will, be .made to -remove the PVC casing
intact by .pulling it from .the ground. If the casing can
indeed ,be pulled intact from the ground, .the hole will then
-be .-grouted from the .bottom .up using a 5% .bentonite cement
grout °.pumped Into .place through a trim line.
I
2. If the PVC casing cannot be removed intact, the well will be i
drilled 'out using a 10 inch hollow stem auger. This
drilling . procedure will completely destroy the PVC well
casing. A set of AW rods will be placed within the well
casing and will act as a centralizer thus ensuring that the
destruction is complete and that the drill hole does not
deviate from the well. The borehole will be grouted as
described above, using a 5% bentonite cement grout pumped
into place through a trim line. Grout placement will be
done under the supervision of a San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Inspector.
I
Sincerely,
ROY F. WESTON, INC.
Jeffrey F. Herrick
Associate Geologist
JFH/akw
k
