Lodi Chrome
Photo 313- Zinc cyanide container next to nitric acid container without berm
Inspection Rep
The plating area is surrounded by a small berm. I noted that near the nickel strip tank
and the chrome tank the crystals were deposited outside the plating shop berm. The
northern wall near the chrome tank had crystals on it and yellow colored stains. There
were a number of holes in the wall in this area where the wall was damage. I asked Mr.
Mason if he knew how the wall got damaged. Mr. Mason replied that the roof leaks and
the damage was water damage from the roof. However, this explanation does not
account for the crystals on the wall and floor.
California Code of Regulations, title 22, section 66265.31 requires that the facility be
maintained and operated to minimize the possibility of fire, explosion, or unplanned
sudden or non -sudden release of hazardous waste. Lodi Chrome has failed to properly
maintain the facility in that hazardous waste spilled from plating baths and rinse tanks
have not been removed. Lodi Chrome has violated California Code of Regulations, title
22, section 66265.31 in that numerous spills were observed throughout the plating
shop. This violation is being cited as a Class I violation in section V of the inspection
report.
8of11
