Box 1810
Stockton, CA 95201
REVIEW OF THIRD QUARTER 20011110NITORING REPORT, CORRAL HOLLOW
SANITAR Y LANDFILL, SAN JOA QUINCOUArTY(CASE NO, 1896)
We have reviewed the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill, Third Quarter 2001, Groundwater and Surface
Water Monitoring Report, dated 15 October 2001.
The monitoring report indicates an upward trend for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), total dissolved
solids, specific conductance and chloride in MW-5. This trend continues to indicate leachate is
impacting groundwater. The county has also reported increasing concentrations of nitrate and specific
conductance in MW-4. MW-4 initial sampling round detected benzene, toluene, and 1,2,3-
trichlorobenzene. A resample was performed on 19 September, 2001. Results showed non-detect for
previously detected VOCs.
Future groundwater monitoring reports should include adequate documentation of the operation of the
landfill gas collection system to facilitate the Regional Board staff in assessing its potential effects.
Based upon comments in the attached checklist,we request the County provide a signed Standard
Observations form. We also require EPA Method 7199 (ion chromatography) for hexavalent chromium
be used instead of EPA Method 7196 (colorimetric) for future monitoring.
The attached Monitoring Report Compliance Checklist will be included in the case file for Corral
Hollow Sanitary Landfill.
If you have any questions or comments regarding my review, please call meat(916) 255-3137.
KIM A.
