FW: Soil at Corral Hollow Land Page 1 of 1
Frank Girardi [EH]
From: Michael Carroll [mcarroll@sjgov.org]
Sent: Monday, October 24, 2005 10:57 AM
To: Ted Tasiopoulos [EH]
Cc: Frank Girardi [EH]
Subject: FW: Soil at Corral Hollow Landfill
Sorry, I remember now it was Frank who was inspecting John's work at CH.
Mike
-----Original Message-----
From: Michael Carroll
Sent: Monday,October 24,2005 10:58 AM
To: Jaime Perez
Cc: Bob Blanco;Ted Tasiopoulos[EH]'
Subject: Soil at Corral Hollow Landfill
Good morning Jaime,
Ted Tasiopoulos of Environmental Health asked us not to dispose of some of the soil dug up while investigating
the extent of refuse and soil cover at the Corral Hollow Landfill. The soil has a little refuse in it, so we planned to
have it taken to Lovelace for disposal at Foothill. However, Ted was concerned that the soil was contaminated,
and asked us to sample it before sending it anywhere. We left the soil on the surface, covered by a tarp, and sent
samples to the lab.
We received the results of the analysis today, and we find no contamination, so now we can dispose of it.
I was wondering if Bob could send somebody down to pick the soil up. John Corey says that it's about 1.5 cy.
Also as a reminder, we can always use clean soil at Corral Hollow. We put a little soil up in that area last year,
but it continues to settle slowly. It's not much of a low spot now, but if we let it go, it will get worse. Ponding is
against regulations, plus this is an unlined site where we need to make sure we don't contaminate the
groundwater. So any clean soil should be saved, and then spread at Corral Hollow when there was enough to
make the trip worthwhile.
Regards,
Mike
W. Michael Carroll, PE
Senior Engineer, Solid Waste Division
San Joaquin County Department of Public Works
209-468-8504
10/24/2005
