GW-6-intermediate is due to recent adjustments of the LFG field to decrease intrusion of air into
the landfill.
In May of this year the overall methane content of the gas collected by the LFG system was
below 30%, indicating significant intrusion of air into the landfill. To avoid the potential for a
subsurface landfill fire and to increase the stability of the LFG flare, the County incrementally
reduced the collection of the LFG system. This successfully increased the methane content of the
collected LFG to above 35%,but the reduced collection rate was apparently insufficient to
control migration toward GW-6.
Once the exceedence at GW-6-intermediate was detected, the County immediately increased the
collection from the LFG wells near GW-6. It is our intent to control migration at GW-6 while
also minimizing intrusion of air into the landfill. The County will continue to increase the
collection of LFG from that portion of the system until the methane content at GW-6
intermediate and GW-6 deep is again below regulatory limits.
Corral Hollow Landfill July 23,2002
San Joaquin County 3 Quarterly LFG Monitoring
