RECEIVED
JUN 11 2020
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
DEPARTMENT
June 16, 2020
FOR: San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD)
Mr. Michael Kith, REHS
Mr. Aaron Gooderham, EHS
1868 Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
PROJECT: Michael and Deana Thornton Project
SR0082092
7095 East Sedan Ave.
Manteca, California 95337
SUBJECT: Plan Check: Engineered Filter Bed
Reference is made to the Thornton Project, indicated above. A Directive letter from EHD dated
June 11, 2020 and received on June 16, 2020 is requesting information pertaining to Section 7.1 of
the SJC Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Standards. This Directive document is
attached. Section 7.1 references Alternative Treatment Systems and Engineered Systems, which
pertains to this project. My responses correlate with the numbering sequence of the EHD
document.
1 a. A complete scaled plot plan illustrating wells, structures, sanitary sewerage line, water lines J
have been submitted to EHD, which were produced by the engineering firm of Welty Engineering.
Land use is for the construction of a second unit dwelling.
lb. The total capacity of the system was calculated to be 250 gpd/ADF. I upgraded the septic size
from a required 1,200 gallon to a 1,600 gallon tank size. This tank volume increase can increase
surge load capacity and buffer an increase in ADF. Organic load will be typical residential
household strength.
1 c. My Report goes into great detail regarding the source of data and the data calculations and how /
"the ability of the effluent to meet discharge standards will be achieved"to meet performance
requirements in Section 10.9 of the CVRWQCB OWTS Policy. These informational items are
found on Pages 8, 9 and 10 of the Report.
Id. The source of data and the data calculations for the system design are from the SJC OWTS
Standards. A three-bedroom house is specified to have 240 ft LFLL. This number is multiplied by J
three to arrive at the filter bed square footage area of 720 sf, increased to 750 sf due to the use of the
Infiltrator EZFlow modules. This area also corresponds with the application rate obtained whereby (
the filter bed can accept 2.4x the ADF and is based on Section 9.7.3 of the SJC OWTS Standards..ttZ
Page 1 of 2
P.O.Box 3794 ❑ Turlock, CA 95381 ❑ 209.4.02.1652 ❑ ddchesney(a)charter.net
