Project Number ST-70.20
INTRODUCTION
Chesney Consulting has been retained by Mr. Juan Carlos Piedra to conduct soil permeability
(percolation) testing at the above-referenced project site. The purpose of this testing was to
determine the permeability of the underlying soils in the proposed location of effluent disposal
from the Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) for his proposed new house.
Additionally, information from the percolation test results has been correlated with the effluent
disposal volume the receiving soils can manage. Soil test locations were determined by the
location of the disposal area as illustrated on plans drawn by Rodrigo Mendez. The domestic well
for this project is in the installation process, at the north property line. There have been no other
improvements made to the property as of the date of this Report.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
On September 30, 2020, the soils investigation began by boring a 25-ft test hole with a B-24
Mobile Drill Rig and solid stem auger to log soil characteristics to this depth. This 25-ft depth
represents the maximum depth of a seepage pit and the location of this project is considered by the
Environmental Health Department (EHD) to be in an area where seepage pits can be installed.
From the lithology data obtained from this 25-ft test boring, two separate perc tests borings were
prepared; one shallow test boring and one medium depth test boring.
The shallow 38" test boring represents permeability at typical leachline depth. The sidewalls of this
test hole were scarified with a pry bar to open potentially smeared soil surfaces. The second boring
was completed to 180" (15 ft) depth and the third test boring was set at 300" (25 ft) deep.
The borings were sleeved with 3" slotted PVC pipe to mitigate potential cave-ins and as the reference
measuring point. Two inches of gravel was placed at the bottom of each test boring to prevent scour.
The borings were pre-saturated with 12" of water approximately 24 hrs prior to testing. On October
2, 2020,percolation testing commenced. An electronic water level meter was used to measure the
water drop every 30 minutes over the four-hour test period. The last half hour of testing was
witnessed by Aaron Gooderham, EHD sanitarian.
P.O. Box 3794 ❑ Turlock,CA 95381 ❑ 209.402.1652 ❑ ddchesngy(a charter.net
