OBSERVATION: The following was observed in the maintenance shop: -One metal grinding machine observed accumulating metal fines on the workbench. -One metal saw machine observed with metal fines accumulating on the machine,workbench and the floor underneath work bench. Note: Operator stated that metal grinding and metal saw machines are not used often, could not determine the last time the machines were used. REGULATION GUIDANCE:A hazardous waste generator must maintain and operate its facility to minimize the possibility of a fire, explosion, or any unplanned sudden or non-sudden release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents to air, soil, or surface water which could threaten human health or the environment. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Immediately, clean accumulating metal fines on metal saw and metal grinding machines. Manage the waste according to Title 22 California Code of Regulations for hazardous waste. Submit a statement and supporting documentation to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department describing the storage and final disposition of the cleaned up waste.
