2. Nitrate Loading Analysis. The Nitrate Loading Study by Chesney Consulting projects an <br /> estimated resultant nitrate—nitrogen concentration of 0.182 mg-N/L,well below the 10 mg- <br /> N/L drinking water standard. I agree with the methodology and calculations presented by <br /> Chesney with the exception of the value for rainfall recharge. The study states an assumption <br /> of 10 inches per year for rainfall recharge(R value),with no supporting rationale or <br /> reference. My calculations using a monthly water balance for the Tracy area indicate an <br /> appropriate rainfall recharge value to be in the range of 2 to 4 inches per year. However, <br /> based on the large size of the parcel, small wastewater flow, substituting a more realistic <br /> rainfall-recharge value of 2 to 4 inches per still yields a projected nitrate concentration below <br /> 1.0 mg-N/L, which is an acceptable result. No further analysis or response is required. <br /> 2 <br />
