Sunset of Universal Waste Rule Page 1 of 1
Frank Girardi [EH]
From: Bowen, Brian [bbowen@wm.com]
Sent: Sunday, January 29, 2006 8:10 AM
To: Frank Girardi [EH]
Subject: RE: Sunset of Universal Waste Rule
Hi Frank.
We are working on a coordinated response for all of our sites. We are also working with DTSC and CIWMB to
hopefully draft a joint letter that is a bit more coordinated.
Talk to you soon.
-----Original Message-----
From: Frank Girardi [EH] [mailto:fgirardi@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Friday, January 27, 2006 4:59 PM
To: Bowen, Brian
Subject: Sunset of Universal Waste Rule
Brian,
As a reminder, starting 2/9/06 universal wastes are no longer allowed to be disposed in landfill.
Therefore, universal wastes will need to be screened and removed to prevent being disposed at the
landfill. A handout was provided to the operator at the last site visit 1/25/06. Because of this, the
EHD requests that updated information be submitted to address loadchecking and screening of
universal wastes batteries, mercury thermostats, waste lamps, and e-devices. Please include the
following information: Adequate signage, proper training of personnel, any needed modification in
the loadcheck program, any needed changes to increase the hazardous waste storage area (not to
interfere with operations). Information regarding this issue was noted on the 1/25/06 inspection
report.
If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks Brian.
Frank Girardi Senior R.E.H.S.
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 E. Weber Avenue
Stockton, CA 95202-2708
(209) 953-7868 (Office)
(209)468-8392 (Fax)
2/22/2006
