As you know,C"VWS is authorized to <br /> manal e Cathode Ray Tubes(CRTs)under the requirements of the CaliforniaDepartment of <br /> ToxioSubstanozes Control(DTSC)and oollects CRTs from customers at the transfer su4on and <br /> through load checking activities at both the transfer station and the compost facility. <br /> Since February 9,2006, CVVVS has initiated activities required by the expiration of the variance <br /> for management of Univemai Wastes for households in California. These activities Include the <br /> following. <br /> 0 Training of personnel responslNe for load checking at both the transfer station and the <br /> compost facility in recognition and management of Universal Wastes, <br /> * Posting of a sign on the south side of the Scale House visible to all customers accassing <br /> either We transfer station or the compost facility that states that Universal Wastw rn;ist <br /> be recycled,what Materials comprise Universal Wastes,and to ask Lhe Stele House <br /> attendant for further information. The Items listed as Universal Wastes or the sign <br /> include: <br /> o Fluorescent light tubes, bulbs,and other mercury containing lamps(e.g.high <br /> intensity discharge, Metal halide,sodium and noon bulbs) <br /> o Electronic devices(e.g_computers,printers,VCRs,cell phones,M.ephones, <br /> radios, m1orowave ovens,answering machines) <br /> o Mercury containing devices(e.g.thermostats,switches,thermornaters,gauges, <br /> novelty items) <br /> o 0.4mmon batteries(e.g,AA,AAA,C,and D oefl batilerjes, button cell bau. ,rjes). <br /> ® Providing written information to customers on where,they can recycle Universal Wastes <br /> in San Joaquin County. <br /> • Collecting,storing,and recycling Universal Wastes found in load choking opgratiom;in <br /> compllarac*withm9ulatory requirements including labeling of containers. <br /> CVWS is proposing to add additional management activities of Universal Was on-site in the <br /> near future. An amendment to the site's Transfer/Prooessing Report will be submitted to the San <br /> Joaquin County Environmenfal Health Division within the next 45 days. CVWS will contact you <br /> prior to the submittal to discuss any additional information that you may want included in the <br /> amendment. <br />
