interact with the other phase to differing degrees due to differences in adsorption, ion-exchange,
partitioning or size. These differences allow the mixture components to be separated from each
other by using these differences to determine the transit time of the solutes through a column.
Gas Chromatography- Carrier gas
The choice of carrier gas depends on the type of detector that is used and the components that are
to be determined. Carrier gases for chromatographs must be of high purity and chemically inert
towards the sample such as:
1. Helium(He);
2. Argon(Ar),Nitrogen(N2);
3. Carbon Dioxide (CO2); and
4. Hydrogen(H2).
The carrier gas system can contain a molecular sieve to remove water or other impurities.
High Performance Liquid Chromotography
High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) is a form of column chromatography that
pumps a sample mixture or analyte in a solvent(known as the mobile phase) at high pressure
through a column with chromatographic packing material (stationary phase). The sample is
carried by a moving carrier gas stream of helium or nitrogen. HPLC has the ability to separate,
and identify compounds that are present in any sample that can be dissolved in a liquid in trace
concentrations as low as parts per trillion. Because of this versatility, HPLC is used in a variety
of industrial and scientific applications, such as pharmaceutical, environmental, forensics, and
chemicals.
Sample retention time will vary depending on the interaction between the stationary phase, the
molecules being analyzed, and the solvent, or solvents used. As the sample passes through the
column it interacts between the two phases at different rate, primarily due to different polarities
in the analytes. Analytes that have the least amount of interaction with the stationary phase or the
most amount of interaction with the mobile phase will exit the column faster.
Facility Security:
The facility at which the lab premises is located shall be under the oversight of 24-hour
surveillance monitoring as well as the supervision of an armed guard. There shall be no public
access to the facility. Facility doors shall remained closed and locked except as necessary for
personnel access. Prior to exiting a transportation vehicle and transferring cannabis samples into
the facility following sample collection, the Lab Director and Sample Technician/Courier shall
coordinate with site security personnel to ensure there are no security threats present. Samples
shall not be removed from the transport vehicle for transfer into the lab testing premises until the
site's access gates are closed and locked.
