DECONTAMINATION PLAN-FORM 17
Personnel Decontamination
Consistent with the levels of protection required,step-by-step procedures for personnel decontamination for each level of
protection are attached.
Levels of Protection Required for Decontamination Personnel
The levels of protection required for personnel assisting with decontamination will be:
❑Level B ❑ Level C ®Level D
Modifications include: None
Disposition of Decontamination Wastes See SAP for decontaminationprocedures)
Used PPE and disposable sampling equipment will be bagged in plastic trash bags and disposed of as municipal trash.
Decontamination fluids and rinse-water generated during sampling will consist of deionized water, residual contaminants,
and water with non-phosphate detergent. Decontamination fluids will be allowed to evaporate onsite.
Equipment Decontamination
Equipment will be decontaminated in accordance with the following procedure:
All subsurface soil samples will be collected using direct-push technology equipped with a hardened steel soil sampler lined
with a dedicated acetate liner attached to a hardened steel cutting shoe. The stainless steel cutting shoe will be
decontaminated between each boring. The hardened steel soil sampler barrel will be decontaminated between each boring.
Equipment decontamination fluids and rinse-water generated during sampling will consist of deionized water, residual
contaminants, and water with non-phosphate detergent. Decontamination fluids will be allowed to evaporate onsite.
Sampling Equipment Decontamination
All non-dedicated sampling devices(hand auger or sampling core)used will be decontaminated in accordance with EPA
ERT SOP#2006 using the following procedures(EPA, 1994).The following,to be carried out in sequence,is an EPA
Region 9-recommended procedure for the decontamination of sampling equipment:
1.Non phosphate detergent(e.g.,Alconox®)and distilled or de-ionized water wash,using a brush if necessary.
2.Triple rinse with distilled or de-ionized water.
Equipment will be decontaminated in a pre-designated area on racks or plastic sheeting.Clean bulky equipment will be stored
on plastic sheeting in uncontaminated areas. Cleaned small equipment will be stored in plastic bags. Materials to be stored
more than a few hours will also be covered.
20 of 23
