FARM SERVICES
FIRST PROJECT
PLANT DISEASE DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
This is a plant disease testing services for the agricultural growers.
We will be testing plants, seeds soil and water samples for plant diseases, for growers, plant
nurseries, vegetable farmers, grape growers, almond and other nut tree farmers and seed
companies. We don't do research. There are already established methods for disease diagnosis
and protocols, we use them. We will be receiving these samples within California State and also
from out of California and out of the country.
We will obtain permits from California Department of Agriculture (CDFA) and United
States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to receive and test seeds, plants, soil and water for
diagnosis of plant pathogenic bacterial, fungal, nematodes and viral diseases. This will be a BSL
level II laboratory. We also test E coli, Salmonella on vegetables and water.
We will be using conventional methods like plating the samples on semi and selective media and
observing them under the microscope, and also use molecular methods for disease diagnostics.
In this,we will extract the DNA from the samples and use established protocols to determine the
disease. This tests are usually done for plant virus diseases. Grapes has got 17 different virus
diseases.
Once we diagnose the diseases, we send the report to the respective farmers and we
charge them for our diagnostic services anywhere between $100 to $300 per test per sample.
The laboratory will be audited by CDFA and USDA.
We will be sending bi-annual reports to the Agriculture Commissioner in the County and to
CDFA, with details about the samples we received within California and diagnosis.
The used and unused samples will be disposed of as per the CDFA protocols (the samples
will be autoclaved and then disposed appropriately). Hazardous material if any will be disposed
appropriately.
SECOND PROJECT
TISSUE CULTURE
Micro propagation(Tissue culture) is the practice of rapidly multiplying stock plant materials to
produce a large number of identical disease free progeny plants. Genetically identical plants are
produced from one plant. A single node will produce a shoot within 4-6 weeks that will have 4—
6 nodes. This will be done aseptically in laboratory conditions. Hundreds of thousands of
genetically identical plants can be produced from one node. These plant-lets after a certain time
in the incubation chamber will be transferred to the growth room, then to shade house for
acclimatization and then to greenhouse waiting to further distribution the customers. The target
crops are Ornamentals, Strawberries, artichoke, coffee, almonds, walnuts, peaches and much
more.
I have a PhD in Plant Pathology and 35 years' experience in plant disease diagnostics.
We will have full-time trained qualified laboratory technicians, office manager and an
accountant. We also will have a greenhouse at the side of the building
Our lab will be audited by the County State Fund, USDA and CDFA for compliance.
