10 May 2017 AdvantedGeo
AGE Project No. 14-3154 Environmental
Page 2 of 2 '0 V
Two waste cells of approximately 2,000 square feet of area each (30 to 35 feet north -
south to soil and 65-70 feet east -west) had demonstrated some waste glass and debris;
the southern cell was approximately eight feet deep and the northern cell was
approximately thirteen feet thick. The majority of waste stream was comprised of steel
parts or window components (rusted), glass, and minor plastics. Excavations removed
the waste from the waste cells and adequately defined the horizontal and vertical extent
of the buried waste, on the property to the western boundary. Excavation was required to
a depth of 13 feet at some locations (north cell), through the use of an excavator
(removing the encountered waste) to reach native soil. Removal of the waste from the
site to a Class II landfill was conducted in December 2015. Approximately 3,567 tons of
waste glass, minor garbage and cover soils were disposed. The waste glass/metal was
loaded into end dump trucks for transport to Forward Landfill under special waste
manifest. A plastic sheet barrier was installed at the western edge of the property
boundary, prior to backfilling native clean soil from the property area undisturbed by waste
handling. Additional waste was observed on the property at 17200 Murphy Parkway.
ADDENDUM TO SCOPE
AGE proposes an additional investigation be performed at the southwestern easement
roadway on the property at 17200 Murphy Parkway to evaluate the potential impact to the
subsurface. AGE anticipates that approximately eight (8) trenching locations will be
required to adequately evaluate the potential horizontal extent of the waste (see trench
location map). AGE anticipates that equally spaced trenches, excavated north to south,
across the easement area from east to west to a shallow depth below the surrounding
surface grade will adequately detect any significant mass of waste materials. Native
materials will be used to backfill and secure the excavations. All field procedures will be
overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of a California Professional
Geologist. Work will be conducted under SJC-EHD oversight.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact our office at (800) 511-
9300.
Sincerely,
Advanced GeoEnviron o c.
No. 7473
William R. Liff!Lr- tarlwffllo/' Senior Project Geologi
California Professional Geologist No. 7473
cc: Dana Parry
