Gooderham, Aaron [EHD]
From: Abby Racco <abby@logelodi.com>
Sent: Friday, September 18, 2020 10:55 AM
To: Kith, Michael [EHD]; Gooderham,Aaron [EHD]
Subject: Perc Test Harney
Attachments: CCF18092020.pdf, IMG_1311 jpg
CAUTION:This email is originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the
sender and know the content is safe.
Hi Michael,
I wanted to ask you about a perc test we performed yesterday that Aaron observed. This project is past the far
eastern end of Harney Lane, a few miles from the County line. It's rocky pasture land that has never been
farmed. Because of the rocks and access issues, the customer dug all the perc test holes with a 9" auger
attached to a bobcat. Unfortunately, holes drilled this way are less stable than a hand-augered hole and tend to
cave in.
We ran this test yesterday (form attached), and had five readings of 0.05 or better, including the last reading. In
the middle of the test, we did get two readings of 0.03, and one of no movement, but it's pretty clear to me that
these were caused by materials sloughing off the sides of the hole. At the no movement reading, a large cobble
about 3-4 inches across fell into the hole and could be seen at the bottom(see photo).
Because the final reading observed by Aaron was 0.05, I'm hoping we could consider this one passed at 50
min/in. For many years that we worked on these projects, the final reading was the only one that mattered. I
think the reasons for that were because the inspector was there to observe it, to give the hole time to settle, and
also because these tests almost always slow over time.
Let me know what you think. We couldn't reach you yesterday, so Aaron agreed not to sign the form until we
hear your decision.
Thank you,
Abby
Abby Racco
Live Oak GeoEnvironmental
(209) 369-0375
(209) 365-3222 cell
www.logelodi.com
1
