November 30, 2007
NOA Project Number: E07192A
3.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
3.4.1 Quantity and Quality ofDomestic Wastewater From Proposed Project
The following discussion is for determining the long-term waste water flow generated from the
proposed project. The nitrate loading analysis and wastewater estimate should not be used for septic
system design purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of septic systems include a peak use
factor, whereas the numbers discussed here are based on long-term averages.
The maximum ex Fes
eptic tank usage for the site will be from various buildings. The facility will
have app ' ate 1mployees workin normal b ess hours Monday through Friday and
have eigh (8) mp working from 3:00m to :00 dnight. An average of approximat 80
customers a xpected during each day. The facility be have 12 a ployees and an average o
customers on Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The facility ' also employ 65 field employees
who will only come into the facility occasionally.
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references. The
uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wlastewater Disposal Standards
(2003),Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA (1980).The references indicate that 13 gallons
for each employee is typical for an office worker and 5 gallons for each field worker. The references
also indicated that the 3 gallons per day is typical for a store customer (Crites and Tchobanoglous,
1998).
The following table presents the septic waste water uses associated with the Site. The rates
presented from the references provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in usage.
Careful examination, professional judgement, and experience are necessary to select a reasonable
flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for the uses associated with this project are presented
next.
Table 1.
Typical Quantity of Effluent
Total aiv
Category People Average Quantity Average Daily Flow
per per Person Per Parcel
Day
Employee 4gpd
M-F 1st Shif135 13 al/da /em to ee ((135 em to ees*13 gPd) 1755 gpd*5/7)
Employee 8 al/da 13 t 8 employees*13 )d 104 d*5/ 7gp
M-F 2nd Shift g y/em po yee (( Pto y '
Field
Employee 65 5 gal/day/employee (65 employees*5 gpd) =325 gpd*5/7)C-232 gp
M-F
Saturday Employee day 12 13gal/day/employee ((12 employees*13 gpd) = 156 gpd* 1/7 *1/2) 11 gpd
6
