Results reveal extremely low concentrations of the nitrogen fractions, as tested. The most
significant measurement is the carbon-to-nitrogen (C:N) ratio, which was measured at a very high
ratio of 165:1. Nitrification will only occur if the C:N ratio is below 20:1. Therefore, 2" of this
specific sawdust material is to be placed evenly over the floor of the excavated filter bed and then
raked 2" into the soil. Raking and incorporation of the organic material into the soil must be done
since nitrification readily occurs in the top two inches of soil. Thus, by incorporating the organic
material into the soil-effluent interface layer, nitrification is prevented and denitrification of
ammonium that may have nitrified in the drain rock is promoted.
The application rate of the shallow soils (36" depth) was determined from the perc rate to be 0.743
gallons/ft2 /day. The total filter bed area is 518 ft2 of floor area. Therefore, the filter bed can
manage: 0.743 gallons/f 2/day x 518 ft2 = 385 gpd. The ADF was calculated to be 280 gpd.
There is no on-site domestic well on the property. The proposed project has received a Will-Serve
Letter from the City of Stockton to provide city water to the residence.
NLS§ 4.2. All Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS) will eventually fail. A reasonably
long lifespan of the primary disposal field can be expected based on the perc rates obtained and the
incorporated design factors.
As-Builts of the entire septic system should be submitted to the EHD by the septic system installer/
contractor after installation.
Page -8-
Chesney Consulting
