The performance objective of the corrective action is to primarily stop increases in VOC
concentrations in groundwater and secondarily to reduce VOC concentrations in
groundwater over time.
Corrective action taken to mitigate the hypothetical release scenario will include the
following activities:
1. A series of 7, 4-inch vent wells (placed on 300 foot centers) designed to influence
the deep waste and underlying vadose zone, will be installed in the interior of the
landfill.
2. The wells will be 30 feet deep and screened at the soil/waste interface.
3. Each wellhead will be fitted with a one-way valve and wind turbine that, when
spinning, will apply a slight vacuum to the well. The one-way valve will prevent
oxygen from entering the landfill.
The network of vent wells will mitigate the migration of landfill gas from the bottom of
the landfill.
4. COST ANALYSIS
The cost of the corrective action plan includes engineering design, construction and
associated materials, permitting, and the final report. A detailed break down of the
associated cost for the project is shown in Table 1. Permitting associated with the project
will include RWQCB and SJC well drilling permits. The total project cost was estimated
at approximately$49,000.
73467 4 August 9,2006
LA 21125 Corrective Action Financial Assurance Cost Estimate
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
