Corral Hollow Landfill is one of the facilities that are inspected by this
Department. The EHD is aware that the City of Tracy has approved a development for
single family homes adjacent to the Corral Hollow Landfill. Although the development is
in the planing stages, it is our understanding that the construction may start in the near
future.
Corral Hollow Landfill was operated by San Joaquin County as a garbage-disposal site
until May 1995. The landfill gas monitoring has been conducted since that date and the
results from the monitoring indicate that Methane gas is above the State Minimum
Standard at the boundary. There is potential for landfill gas to migrate from the site.
The County is installing a gas extraction system to control the landfill gas at the site.
The installation of a gas extraction system does not exclude the possibility that landfill
gas will migrate from the site.
In Title 27 of California code of Regulations (27 CCR), 21190 (g), Post-closure Land
Use, the regulation requires:
"(g) all on site construction within 1,000 feet of the boundary of any disposal area
shall be designed and constructed in accordance with the following, or in
accordance with an equivalent design which will prevent gas migration into the
building, unless an exemption has been issued:
(1) a geomembrane or equivalent system with low permeability to landfill gas
shall be installed between the concrete floor slab of the building and
subgrade;
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
