Geosyntec
consultants
5.4 Project-Specific Matrix Spike/ Matrix Spike Duplicate Samples
MS/MSD sample pairs are sample aliquots that have been spiked by the laboratory with
a known amount of analyte and analyzed per the method. The percent recovery and the
RPD results of the analyte in the MS and the MSD are an indication of analytical precision
and accuracy for the analyte in the given chemical matrix. MS/MSD pairs prepared from
project samples are used to measure these qualities as they apply to the particular matrix
of the project in order to assess potential matrix interferences affecting project sample
analytical results.
5.5 Laboratory Quality Control Samples
Laboratory QC samples and reference standards will be introduced into the measurement
process to evaluate laboratory performance and sample measurement for all matrices, as
defined by the governing analytical methods. Control samples will be prepared from
environmental samples or be generated from standard materials in the laboratory.
Laboratory QC samples include method blanks, LCSs, and laboratory duplicates, as
appropriate for the method.
Quality Assurance Project Plan 7 7 December 2020
