Intersection of Thornton and Walnut Grove
November 1997
Page 2
In order to investigate the possibility that the Gardner Property was the source of the
investigation a second trench, Trench-2, was excavated and sampled. This trench was located
north of the Gardner Property. No contamination was noted during sampling collection.
I have not yet received a copy of the laboratory report, but as soon as one is available, it will be
forwarded for your information. I completed a Proposition 65 notification on November 7,
1997 and placed the site on the contaminated site list on November 17, 1997. Also, on
November 17, 1997, I conducted a site inspection to verify that the contaminated soil was
removed from private property and covered and placed on plastic. The soil had been moved to
the San Joaquin County easement directly adjacent to the private property and placed on and
covered by plastic.
I understand that trenching activities in the area noted to be contaminated will continue and
that if contaminated soil is encountered that it will be handled and disposed of properly
pursuant to applicable laws and regulations. Please note that since the source of the
contamination has not been ascertained that San Joaquin County Public Works Department
will be designated as the sole responsible party.
Should you wish to obtain further assistance or regulatory direction, please do not hesitate to
contact me at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Acktl-A-13
Mary Meays, Sen r REHS Margare Lagorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Lead Senior
h: Gardner Property Site File
