THORNTON ROAD, THORNTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY (CASE # 390412)
I reviewed the Workplan for Well Destruction (Workplan), submitted 27 January 2010 by
M. & Ms. Barber's consultant, Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc (AGE) and written in
response to my letter request for the Workplan, dated 29 December 2009, which also directed
well abandonment prior to site closure. The Workplan proposes over-drilling groundwater
monitoring wells MW-3 and MW-4, due to residual groundwater contamination. The remaining
monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-5 through MW-7, and remediation wells VW-1 through
VW-3 and AS-1 will be pressure grouted. All wells will be destroyed in accordance with the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) Standards for Well
Construction and Destruction. All investigation derived waste (soil cuttings) generated during
over-drilling will be transported to the proper landfill facility under manifest, prior to site closure.
The Workplan also includes a Site Health and Safety Plan for the fieldwork. Upon approval of
the Workplan, AGE will begin SJCEHD permitting and acquire offsite access agreements
during the first week of February 2010, with well abandonments to occur at the end of that
month.
The Workplan is approved. Please provide an email update with the actual date of the
fieldwork, in order to notify SJCEHD and myself at least three working days prior to start of
fieldwork. A letter report of the wells destruction, with a signed copy of the soil cuttings
disposal manifest and any associated analytical data, is due 30 days after completion of
fieldwork
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 464-4615 or you may reach me by email at
jbartonwaterboards.ca.gov .
14t y
,dames L.
