P-N
RESNA WATERWORK CORP.
INDUSTRIES
March 21, 1991
Executive Summary
Subsurface Investigation
26056 Thornton Road
Thornton, CA
Site Code 1864
-77r
APR 1 Tgl
ONNIENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
HISTORY OF SITE
On September 6, 1989, three underground gasoline storage tanks
were removed from the project site. Soil samples were collected
beneath each tank and the associated piping and analyzed for
petroleum hydrocarbon constituents using appropriate EPA and DHS
methodologies. Soil samples collected from beneath two of the
tanks contained moderate to high levels of ethylbenzene and
xylenes (1.2 to 42 parts per million (ppm)) as well as TPHG (50-
830 ppm).
Under the direction of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (SJCPHS), the property
owner has already conducted some subsurface investigative activi-
ties. The property owner is required to conduct further investi-
gation to evaluate site conditions and to determine appropriate
cleanup measures. Although conditions at this site are not
unusual, precautionary measures beyond those normally required
are being implemented due to the site proximity to a municipal
well (Thornton Municipal Well #2).
CURRENT WORK
The current scope of work involves soil borings and monitoring
well installation and a sampling plan to provide a complete
characterization of soil and groundwater contamination, including
the type, extent, migration, and fate of contaminants.
On November 1, 1990, three monitoring wells were installed at the
site to evaluate the impact of the petroleum product discharge on
the shallow groundwater beneath the site. Laboratory analysis
verified that some groundwater contamination exists at the site.
To fully define the extent of groundwater contamination, 2-3
additional monitoring wells will be installed at the site. The
work plan for this additional investigative phase is currently
being reviewed by the SJCPHS.
1710 MAIN STREET • ESCALON, CA 95320 • (209) 838-3507
2350-A WALSH AVENUE • SANTA CLARA, CA 95051 • (408) 496-1249
