Construction Quality Assurance(4 Plan Extension of Closure Cap <br /> Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill August 21,2008 <br /> 4.2.4.4 Conformance Test Failure <br /> If a GCL conformance sample does not comply with the minimum requirements of the <br /> specifications, the GCL roll from which the sample was taken will be failed by the CQA <br /> Monitor, and replaced by the GCL Manufacturer at no additional cost to the Owner. <br /> 4.2.5 Surface Preparation. <br /> The surface must be prepared in accordance with the technical specifications. Before <br /> GCL installation, the surface will be inspected by the CQA Monitor and geosynthetics <br /> Contractor. The CQA Monitor must observe the following: <br /> ♦ All lines and grades have been verified by the Contractor. <br /> ♦ The soil surface has been rolled and compacted to be free of surface <br /> irregularities, loose soil, and protrusions. <br /> ♦ The soil surface does not contain stones or other objects that could <br /> damage the GCL. <br /> ♦ There are no excessively soft areas. <br /> ♦ The soil surface is not saturated, and no standing water is present. <br /> ♦ The soil surface has not desiccated. <br /> ♦ All construction stakes have been removed and there is no debris, rocks, <br /> or any other objects in or on the soil surface. <br /> ♦ The geosynthetics Contractor has certified in writing that the surface on <br /> which the GCL will be installed is acceptable. <br /> 4.2.6 Repair <br /> Any holes or tears in the GCL will be repaired by the Contractor by placing powered <br /> bentonite around the damaged area a distance of 2 ft and then placing a GCL patch <br /> over the hole and surrounding bentonite. The patch will overlap the edges of the hole or <br /> tear by 2 ft in all directions. If deemed necessary by the Engineer, the patch will be <br /> secured with a water-based adhesive approved by the GCL Manufacturer.
