The approximate location of the plug that separates the 2 wells.
Ans:The plug will be approximately at the middle of the screened section (approximately 255 feet from
either end of the screen) to prevent preferential flow across the screen interval.
1. Plug specification.
Ans: The Work Plan that we provided does indicate installation of a horizontal well as part of Phase 2
implementation. The description of the horizontal well in the work plan did not include a plug since it was in
the conceptual stages of development. However, for practical purposes and to prevent preferential flow of
our injection solution into the well, the design has been modified to include a plug in the middle of the
screen length. The total screen length is approximately 510 feet with the plug located midway
(approximately at 255 feet from the beginning of the screen). The plug will consist of a 4-inch HDPE blank
insert that will be installed on Site while pulling in the well into the borehole. (Please see attached schematic
depicting the location of the plug for clarity).
1. What is"open hole (natural sand pack)?
Ans: As we had described before, a horizontal well does not have a filter pack as opposed to one for a
vertical well because of challenges associated with installing a filter pack horizontally. Therefore, the sand
pack surrounding the well screen, consisting of the surrounding geologic formation will serve as the filter
pack for the well. Once the well is installed, formation material will simply slough over the well screen
sections.
1. Is there any bentonite transitional seal?
Ans:There will be no bentonite transitional seal. A soft rubber shale trap packer system will be used to
prevent grout placement within the screen interval. The grout mix ratio depicted in the well schematic
diagram can be adjusted in the field to satisfy SJCEHD requirements.
Please let us know if this answers your questions.
Thank you,
Orin Regier
1
