From:
Michael Carroll <mcarroll@sjgov.org> low
Sent:
Tuesday, December 03, 2013 8:06 AM
To:
Natalia Subbotnikova [EH]
Cc:
Robert McClellon [EH]; Jaime Perez
Subject:
FW: Erosion due to November Storm at Corral Hollow Landfill
Good morning Natalia,
For your records, here is the email I sent to Todd Del Frate of the Water Board yesterday regarding the erosion at
Corral Hollow Landfill.
Best regards,
Mike Carroll
From: Michael Carroll
Sent: Monday, December 02, 2013 1:19 PM
To: 'DelFrate, Todd@Waterboards'
Cc: Joyesh Chandra; Jaime Perez; Billy Baier; Dan Gambini
Subject: Erosion due to November Storm at Corral Hollow Landfill
.•i
This is to let you know that the storm on November 22 caused some erosion to the vegetative layer on the new
closure area at Corral Hollow, plus a few other areas. Apparently the storm was very intense, but short lived.
Most of the erosion occurred in the flatter part of the closure area which received run-on from surrounding areas:
the area leading to the Caltrans area, and in the Caltrans property itself. Erosion was usually about 6" deep, so the
closure membrane was not exposed.
We began repairs on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and they continue this week. In general, we will be flattening
the erosion areas, replacing the cover as needed with soil that contains some rounded rock, making those surfaces
that are more subject to surface water flow more erosion -resistant. We are also building small berms to direct
surface water more quickly into the concrete -lined drainage ditch to reduce the over-all flow that might be seen by
those areas. The drainage ditch adjacent to the newly -constructed access road will also need some work.
The erosion over the recent closure was completed at noon today. The remaining work, plus a few improvements,
should be done by the end of this week.
We will document the erosion and correction in our Annual Ground Water and Surface Water Report, due to you by
the end of January.
Best regards,
Mike Carroll
W.
