09 September 2003 <br />AGE-NC Project No. 03-1064 <br />Page 2 of 7 <br />3.0. ON-SITE CONTROL <br />The Site Safety Officer will coordinate site access control and security. A exclusion zone will be <br />established approximately 10 feet around GeoProbe excavation area. No unauthorized person shall <br />be allowed within this exclusion area. <br />4.0. HAZARD EVALUATION <br />The following substance(s) or hazards are known or suspected to be on site. <br />SUBSTANCES INVOLVED: CONCENTRATIONS: <br />Benzene unknown <br />Toluene unknown <br />Ethyl-benzene unknown <br />Total xylenes unknown <br />TPH-gas o line unknown <br />Other organic-based products (e.g., fuel oxygenates) unknown <br />The primary hazards of each are identified as follows: <br />1. Hydrocarbon fuels - Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic <br />petroleum hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. <br />Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, <br />nose, and throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. <br />Symptoms of exposure at these concentrations include headache, nausea, drowsiness, <br />dizziness, and loss of coordination. Certain components of gasoline (BTE&X etc.) are known <br />or suspected carcinogens. <br />The additional potential hazards include: Slip-trip-fall hazards, noise, heavy equipment (i.e... <br />GeoProbe), vibration hazards, traffic hazards, etc. <br />Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
