The State Department of Health Services
(DHS) has adopted standards for public drinking water systems, however, private well
owners are not legally required to meet this standard. For comparison, PHS/EHD has
included the DHS maximum contaminant level (MCL) standard for the contaminant
which was detected in the sample collected from your well.
Result MCL
1,1 Dichloroethane 1.1 ppb 5 ppb
PHS/EHD is overseeing the investigation of the former underground fuel storage tank
located at 4648 E. Waterloo Road. During the course of groundwater monitoring,
organic compounds, like 1,1 Dichloroethane, were detected in the public water supply
well serving the tenants in the Marlowe Business Park. PHS/EHD, with the cooperation
of the various neighboring residences and businesses, conducted a well survey and has
initiated the laboratory sampling of neighboring wells in an attempt to identify impacted
drinking water wells.
PHS/EHD will continue to monitor the groundwater investigation and we are hopeful
that the limits of the impact area will soon be known.
In this instance, your private well analysis did not exceed the DHS maximum
contaminant level standard for 1,1 Dichloroethane. However, any of the following
recommendations may be implemented as a precautionary measure to prevent the
potential exposure to this well:
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services l()
