Mr. Williams:
This letter is regarding the results from the first landfill gas
monitoring event at the Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill . A perimeter
landfill gas monitoring network was installed by EMCON Associates
in October, 1991 . According to Title 14, Chapter 3, Article 7.8,
regulations regarding closure and postclosure, the operator of a
solid waste facility must notify the Board and the Local
Enforcement Agency upon discovering methane levels in excess of 5%
by volume at the perimeter. The first monitoring event at the
Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill showed methane levels in excess of
5% by volume in some perimeter monitoring wells. The quarterly
landfill gas monitoring report is currently being finalized by
EMCON Associates, and the results will be submitted to the Board
and LEA upon receipt of the report by the County.
If you have any questions, please call me at (209) 468-3066.
Sincerely,
GABRIEL KARAM, P.E.
Senior Solid Waste Engineer
GK:WJ:vj
R: IVIRGINIAILETTERSIGASMON.BW
c: Ed Padilla, Senior Registered
Environmental Health Specialist
LA 11458
