f) PEI/RP1200-17 <br />S. ELECTRONIC <br />MONITORING <br />SYSTEM INSPECTION <br />AND TESTING <br />8.1 General. Electronic underground storage tank <br />(UST) monitoring systems provide a warning or alarm <br />when a leak in the UST system occurs. The monitoring <br />system and sensors need to be programmed to reflect <br />the conditions for each individual site to ensure proper <br />operation. For the remainder of this section, the term <br />"ATG" shall be used to refer to all electronic UST <br />monitoring systems whether they have an automatic tank <br />gauge probe or are solely an electronic alarm for sensors <br />installed. "ATG" is a general industry term that is used to <br />identify all electronic tank monitoring equipment. <br />Before starting any testing, print out the system configu- <br />ration on the ATG console (if equipped with a printer) <br />and verify that site setup parameters are correct. Make <br />sure that the sensors are correctly labeled to indicate their <br />location. <br />Keep completed compliance tests on file to confirm that <br />during the test: <br />• the system was continuously powered and monitored <br />for the data collection period; <br />• tank probes and leak sensors were functioning properly. <br />FIGURE 8-1. ATG probes continuously measure <br />the product level in a UST using an in -tank probe con- <br />nected to a console. To properly evaluate its condition, <br />the probe needs to be removed from the tank and visually <br />inspected. <br />0 pei.org <br />ATGs monitor the product level in storage tanks and can <br />be programmed to perform compliance tests that include <br />0.2 gph static and dynamic ("continuous") leak tests, and <br />0.1 gph ("precision") tests. <br />8.2.1 ATG Functionality Test. <br />8.2.1.1 General. The ATG must be pro- <br />grammed using site-specific parameters <br />for the UST system to ensure proper opera- <br />tion. Tester should confirm the required <br />setup and testing parameters with the <br />owner/operator. <br />On dual float systems, the second float <br />indicates the level of water in the tank. <br />8.2.1.2 Purpose. The purpose of this <br />test is to: <br />• determine whether the ATG shows the <br />correct product level on the console; <br />• determine whether the ATG shows the <br />correct water level on the console; <br />• verify that the water alarm is operating <br />correctly and provides a warning at the <br />programmed set point. <br />WARNING: Water ingress into tanks con- <br />taining ethanol -blended gasoline may not <br />be detected using water floats designed <br />for non -ethanol -blended gasoline. <br />8.2.1.3 Description of Test. The pro- <br />cedures in this test are for a probe, properly <br />installed per manufacturer's instructions, <br />equipped with floats having a range inside <br />the tank that extends from the bottom to <br />the top of the tank. <br />The ATG probe is removed from the tank. <br />The product float and water float positions <br />are compared with the console readout. <br />8.2.1.4 Preparation.
