SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE: CNS (central nervous system) depression may be evidenced
by giddiness, headache, dizziness, and nausea; in extreme cases unconsciousness and death may occur.
Aspiration pneumonitis will be indicated by coughing, labored breathing and cyanosis(bluish skin); in severe
cases, death may occur. Kidney damage may be evidenced by changes in urine output, urine appearance
or edema (swelling from fluid retention). Liver damage may be evidenced by loss of appetite, jaundice
(yellowish skin color) and sometimes pain in the upper right abdomen.
RECOMMENDATIONS TO PHYSICIAN: Keep victims head below hips to prevent aspiration. If systems
such as loss of gag reflex, convulsions or unconsciousness occur before emesis, gastric lavage should be
considered.
SECTION VI -REACTIVITY DATA
STABILITY: Stable: X Unstable:
Conditions To Avoid: Oxidizing materials, heat, sparks and open flame.
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION OR BY-PRODUCTS: Carbon monoxide and other unidentified organic
compounds can be formed upon combustion.
HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: May Occur: Will not Occur: X
SECTION VII - PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORAGE: Keep away from oxidizing materials,
sparks, heat, and open flame. Provide adequate ventilation. Vapors may accumulate and travel to distant
ignition sources resulting in a flash fire. Empty containers may contain enough vapors to cause an
explosion. Never cut, drill, grind, weld or perform similar operations on or near containers.
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IF MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED: In case of a spill or leak, protect from
ignition. Contain spill immediately in smallest area possible. Recover as much of the product as possible
by such methods as vacuuming, use of absorbent pads or other absorbent material. Use explosion-proof
equipment. Remove contaminated items including contaminated soil and place in a proper container for
disposal. PG&E employees should contact their local environmental coordinator. Non PG&E personnel
should contact a hazardous waste management firm.
WASTE DISPOSAL PROCEDURES: PG&E employees should contact their environmental coordinator.
Non-PG&E employees should contact a hazardous waste management firm.
SECTION VIII - EMPLOYEE PROTECTION INFORMATION
VENTILATION AND ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Storage and use areas should be well ventilated. Use
explosion-proof ventilation to control vapor concentrations to below the LEL.
cca/1 0-7-92/8913a/JAWP 13 A-10
