Upon completion, all borings will be grouted to the surface using a sand/cement slurry. All waste grout,
soil, and drill cuttings will be collected, contained, labeled, and stored for later disposal (see Waste Disposal
Plan).
PHASE II - GROUND WATER ASSESSMENT
If the results of the soil survey indicate that products extend to ground water, the site investigation will be
expanded to include a ground water assessment. Initially the assessment will involve installing, developing,
and sampling one monitoring well located adjacent to the discharge line (see Figure 2.) If the results of the
ground water sampling indicate that elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons and/or glycol compounds
are present in ground water, additional monitoring wells will be installed at the station. These wells will be
used to characterize ground water quality and determine hydraulic gradient beneath the facility. Actual
monitoring well locations will be determined based on assumed hydraulic downgradient direction and site
conditions. Monitoring well installation procedures are outlined in Appendix C.
The proposed monitoring wells will be screened from 3 to 5 feet above the water table to 10 feet below the
water table, in the upper part of the saturated zone. This screened interval should allow for the
determination of the presence of any floating product, permit a representative water sample to be taken,
and accommodate any fluctuations of the water table. Top of casing elevations for all monitoring wells will
be surveyed to a common datum to the nearest 0.01 foot. The depth to water will be measured, using an
electric immersion probe, to an accuracy of 0.01 foot.
Ground water samples will be taken according to the procedures outlined in Appendix D. The water samples
will be placed on ice and delivered within 48 hours to Eureka Laboratories, Inc. for analysis. Selected water
samples obtained from the wells will be analyzed as follows: TPH as gasoline (EPA Method 8015); BTEX
(EPA Method 602); and glycol (Method GC-FID).
462891/42/PPU26 5-2
