Section 7
QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN
SAMPLE COLLECTION AND HANDLING
All soil and water samples will be collected by trained personnel. All samples will be analyzed by the
laboratory within the maximum allowable holding times for the constituents to be tested.
The split spoon sampler and brass tube liners, used to collect the soil samples, will be thoroughly washed
with trisodium phosphate (TSP) solution and rinsed with potable water between each sampling to avoid
cross contaminating the samples. The drive samples will be retained in the brass liners, labeled, capped
with polyethylene lids, sealed with adhesive tape, placed on ice and transported to the laboratory for
chemical analyses.
Water samples taken from each monitoring well will be collected and analyzed in duplicate, and at least one
field blank (distilled water poured into a sample vial at the site) will be collected and submitted for analysis
as a check of sampling and analytical accuracy.
CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY
A Chain-of-Custody form (Figure 3) will be used to document soil and water sample possession from the
time of collection to its arrival at the analytical laboratory. Also recorded on the Chain-of-Custody form will
be the sample number, site identification, date sampled, analysis requested, and sample condition upon
receipt at the laboratory.
' 462a91/42/PPU26 7-1
