APPENDIX D <br /> Prior to sampling each well, the depth to water and floating product thickness (if present) will be measured <br /> and recorded. Ground water in the monitoring wells will be sampled according to the following methodology: <br /> 1. Each well will be purged by evacuating water until at least three well volumes have been removed or until <br /> the conductivity, pH, and temperature have stabilized. If the recharge rate of the well is low, the well will <br /> be completely evacuated and allowed to recover to 80 percent of the initial depth of water in the well <br /> before sampling. <br /> 2. Samples will be collected using a Teflon or stainless steel bailer that has been washed in a TSP solution <br /> followed by rinses with distilled water. The bailer will be cleaned between wells to avoid cross <br /> contamination of samples. The bailer line will be replaced between well samplings. <br /> 3. Samples will be transferred from the bailer to appropriately prepared 40 ml VOA vials and 1,000 ml glass <br /> containers with caps that have Teflon septums. The containers will be labeled with the following <br /> information: Sample Identification (i.e., well number), Site Location, Date and Time, and Name of the <br /> person collecting the sample. Care will be taken when transferring the water from the bailer to the <br /> containers to avoid turbulence and bubbling as much as possible. The containers will be filled and the <br /> caps slipped onto the containers so that no air bubbles are trapped. Samples will then be sealed, placed <br /> on ice and chilled to less than 4°C, and shipped to the laboratory. <br /> 462891/42/PPU26 D-1 <br />
