Pacific Gas and Electric Company
202/799-5043
July 29 , 1988
Method 625, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) by EPA
Method 8080, bases and acids by EPA Method 8270, and
triethylene glycol by a modified EPA Method 8015 .
" Prepared this report containing the results of the
investigation and recommendations regarding the
feasibility of in situ bioremediation of soils con-
taining elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons.
SOIL BORINGS
Three soil borings were drilled to examine the extent of
petroleum hydrocarbons in subsurface soil near the sump. All
three borings were drilled to a total depth of 12 . 5 feet below
aground surface.
Soil borings were drilled with a truck-mounted drill rig,
using 7 . 0-inch outside diameter (O.D. ) hollow-stem augers . The
drilling was supervised by a field geologist , working under the
direction of a California Registered Geologist . The field
geologist maintained a continuous log of the materials en-
countered during drilling (Appendix I ) .
SOIL SAMPLING
Soil boring 1 (SB-1 ) was sampled continuously in order to
maintain an accurate log of soils encountered. Soil borings 2
and 3 were sampled at 3-foot intervals, beginning approximately 3
feet below grade to the bottom of each boring. Samples were
obtained during drilling using a 2 . 5-inch O.D. split-spoon
sampler, lined with three 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long bass
5
