Box 2009 ENVlk( rV; ,,Tql
Stockton, CA 95201 FERr^,11EKv1
i cES
- S HEALTH
Dear Mr. Carls:
We have received the results of the preliminary soil
investigation performed by Groundwater Technologies, Inc. to
determine the feasibility of removing subsurface hydrocarbons at
y PG&E's Lathrop Dehydrator Station. This report indicates the
petroleum-range hydrocarbons found underground at the Lathrop
Dehydrator could readily be degraded in place. We are currently
reviewing this report and will forward it to you by July 31,
1988.
Based on this report, PG&E plans to take the following actions:
1. Resume critical construction activities at the site. Because
of the initial uncertainties of this investigation, construc-
tion work necessary for the continued safe and efficient sup-
ply of natural gas from the Lathrop Dehydrator has been
delayed for the last three months. Based on the feasibility
study, PG&E feels the continuance of vital construction work
at Lathrop will not have an adverse effect on future site
remediation efforts.
In anticipation of utilizing in-situ biodegradation, an
injection gallery will be installed in the same location as
the leach line. This injection gallery can be used to pass
nutrients into the soil (a requirement of biodegradation)
regardless of foundations or other equipment located on the
surface.
2. Continue with the soil investigation. With your approval ,
PG&E will conduct an additional geotechnical investigation to
determine the full extent of the petroleum-range hydrocarbons
in the soil surrounding the leach line. The investigation
will propose additional soil borings and at least one ground-
water sampling well . PG&E will utilize this investigation to
determine future actions and remediation alternatives.
