l
San Ramon for chemical analyses. The groundwater samples will be analyzed for TPH-G (EPA Method
5030/8015), TEPH (EPA Method 3510/8015), and BTEX (EPA Method 602).
IQUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL AND CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY PROCEDURES
In order to ensure a successful sampling program, quality assurance and quality control procedures will be
jcarefully followed. The key points of the quality assurance procedures pertain to the submittal of quality
assurance samples and document control (decontamination procedures have been previously discussed).
Quality Assurance Samples
jQuality assurance samples will be used to evaluate the quality of the data obtained from the field program.
Two distinct types of quality assurance samples will be used for this purpose.
j1. Blind duplicates of water samples will be submitted to the testing laboratory at a minimum rate
of 1 per 10 regular samples obtained.
I2. Field travel blanks will be submitted at a rate of 1 per 10 water samples collected, but no less
than one per ice chest, in order to determine if cross contamination occurred in transit. All
Ifield travel blanks will be supplied by the testing laboratory.
I Soil and groundwater samples will be submitted to a State of California-certified analytical laboratory for
chemical analyses. Established QA/QC procedures for analytical operations will include sample custody
I procedures, standards of analytical accuracy, analyses of matrix spikes and method blanks, data reduction,
verification of raw analytical data, and maintenance of control charts to monitor analytical performance.
I These QA/QC procedures are outline in the laboratory Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan which is
available upon request. Organic chemical analyses will be performed in conformance with standard
l procedures established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in "Guidelines
Establishing Test Procedures for the Analysis of Pollutants Under the Clean Water Act"(40 CFR
i Part 136, October 1984). The laboratory is periodically evaluated through external audits conducted by
1 the EPA and the State of California Department of Toxic Substances Control using QC laboratories.
1 Chain-of-Custody
Chain-of-custody procedures will be used to identify and ensure traceability of the samples collected.
1 These procedures will also be used to document the handling and shipping procedures of the sample(s).
Specifically, the chain-of-custody procedures will trace the sample(s) from collection, through all custody
1
cca/03/10/95 09:38 AM(0688brpt.dodntw12) 4-8
i
