O. Box 770000
San Francisco, CA 94177
PG&E MCDONALD ISLAND SURFACE IMPOUNDMENTS, SAN JOAQ UIN
COUNTY (Case No. 2288)
We have reviewed your 30 September 1994 letter on cleanup levels for native soils underlying the
former surface impoundment. The proposed attenuation factors for barium, chloride and sulfate are
acceptable based on the analysis presented in your letter and the sample results from the excavation.
We concur with the revised cleanup levels of 200 mg/l chloride, 5 mg/1 barium and 250 mg/1 sulfate
based on waste extraction test method. Furthermore, we note that the 23 samples from the
excavation have average concentrations significantly below the cleanup levels with average chloride
near 50 mg/1,barium near 0.3 mg/l and sulfate near 30 mg/1.
Based on the revised cleanup levels and available sample data, soil cleanup in the pond area appears
complete and cover soil can be placed over the excavation area. If you have any questions, please
call Steve Rosenbaum at(916) 255-3131.
WILLIAM J. MARSHALL,Chief
Waste Discharge to Land Unit
SER
cc:.
