We take the indication of migration of landfill gas
from our sites very seriously, and are most pleased to report that the combustible gas concentrations
at the northwest portion of the Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill have been significantly reduced by
our remediation measures.
For ease of understanding, I would like to address the items of your letter in order.
1: Remedial Efforts Against LFG Migration
Our remedial efforts included resetting the LFG header to remove zones of condensate
accumulation, and the aggressive adjustment of the LFG wells in the area near the affected probes
to maximize LFG collection. Full system function was restored September 15, 2004, and
aggressive adjustment began immediately afterward. Recent data indicate that these efforts have
been effective (see table below).
Although we expect some variation in combustible gas levels as migration control is fully
established, we anticipate full compliance in the near future.
Our remedial efforts will continue, which include continuing aggressive adjustment of the LFG
system. In particular, we have asked our operator contractor to focus on reducing the methane
content at GW-3D (see Table).
